— After driving over 200 miles this past weekend, I came home very disappointed with this year’s wildflower display. Yes, the roadside is still covered with Bluebonnets (Texas State flower) and people taking photos among them. However, for me, it’s the diversity of wildflowers that makes it a beautiful display. For example, when I find a lonely Indian Blanket flower among a field of Bluebonnets, I enjoy the scenery even more. Even the famous Willow City Loop was totally disappointing this weekend of March 18. The entire 13-mile drive on that loop was abysmal as far as wildflowers are concerned. We saw more flowers along County Road 307 and other major roads. This shot was taken a year ago just about a mile from my house at the Copperfield Nature Trail. My perseverance in sitting and waiting paid off as the bee landed dead center on this Indian Blanket (also known as Firewheel). Of course there were Bluebonnets around, but this stood out.
