— Arches National Park is well known for its distinctive arches. However, in addition to those, another feature is very noticeable throughout the park in several locations: the La Sal Mountains (or La Sal Range). The mountain range is located along the Utah/Colorado border. Mount Peale, reaching 12,721 feet (3,877 m) marks the highest elevation in the range. This particular show was made while hiking the Devil’s Garden trail. The trail is arguably the most fascinating and picturesque in the park. Not only can you see several of the famous arches along the trail, a hiker also has to walk on slick rock such as the one in the photo. On this day, the wind was very strong in this area. We had to sit down on a couple places for safety reasons. Hikers need to very aware of the trail and cairns. Sometimes it’s not quite obvious where the trail is going, although in the case of the photo, we knew there was no other way to go but forward.
