Navajo Point

Navajo Point—  Celebrating its 98th birthday today, the Grand Canyon National Park was established on February 26, 1919. The canyon that separates the South from the North Rim is a mile deep (1.6 km). The Desert View Drive is one of the most scenic areas in the park. Several major lookout points provide a visitor with breathtaking views of the canyon. This particular shot was taken near the Navajo Point, which is the highest point of the south rim (7,498 feet) just near the Desert View Visitor Center and watchtower. With the sun beginning to set, the canyon colors come alive every minute of the day. The following year after this photo, we went back to visit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It is interesting to note that the drive from the South Rim Village to the North Rim Village in 215 miles (346 km), taking a traveler about 5 hours to drive between those points.
