Strolling Under Pastel-Colored Skies

The three great elemental sounds in nature are the sound of rain, the sound of wind in a primeval wood, and the sound of outer ocean on a beach.
Henry Beston

This was the scene before us in December 2018. We were strolling along a deserted beach in the Fortaleza metropolitan area, just past the enormous Beach Park waterpark in northeast Brazil. There was a cool breeze in the air. One of my nieces had given us the key to a friend’s condo right at that beach. Those were three very peaceful days.

This area in Fortaleza has grown tremendously in recent years. When the waterpark opened in 1989, it was the only business in the area. Nowadays, there is a new city surrounding the waterpark. The park covers 180,000 square meters (or 1,937,503 sq ft) and is visited by around 1,150,000 people annually. It has clothing stores, pharmacies, condos, hotels, and restaurants, providing tourists with a complete infrastructure in the area. It’s only about 45 minutes from downtown Fortaleza.
