— On our first day back at the Grand Canyon North Rim, we talked with one of our waiters at the lodge we were staying and asked for his favorite spots at the park. He was quick to tell us that sunsets at Cape Royal was the place to go. Boy, was he right! We made plans to be there close to sunset time. The area was very busy when we arrived, and there were several people already placed in strategic areas. We found ourselves a nice rock to sit down and grab our take-out food we’d brought to the park. It didn’t take very long for the show to start. Seen in the photo above is Wotans Throne on the right and Vishnu Temple on the left. The shot above was taken at Cape Royal, the southernmost point on the North Rim. Cape Royal (7,865 ft / 2,397 m) is a privileged point because, among several features, one can see the Colorado River on the east. The photo below is a west view from Cape Royal. Later in the week, we discovered another trail around that area with different views of Wotans Throne.
