— The trail leading to the Window at Big Bend NP is one of the most popular trails in the park. The moderate hike is approximately 5.2 miles (8.4 km) round trip. There is quite a bit of elevation gain, though. So, the return trip can be more challenging when you have to gain about 948 feet (289 m) in elevation. Just before you arrive at the Window, you pass the steps shown in the photo above. I have often enjoyed looking at those steps and rocks around them because you can see the power of the water that goes through that area. The rocks are fairly smooth. Caution must be taken when walking there.
