Davis Mountains Sunset

Davis Mountains

— No matter when you visit Fort Davis and the Davis Mountains area, sunsets will always be a memorable experience. This is one of my favorite areas of Texas. Here you have the Davis Mountains State Park and the Davis Mountains Preserve as well the University of Texas McDonald Observatory and its famous Star Parties. In Fort Davis, you can also visit the Fort Davis National Historic Site. Whether you stay at the Indian Lodge or the Limpia Hotel, you should always plan a drive at sunset. You can go up to Skyline Drive in the state park or take a drive to Marfa and other surrounding towns. When I made this shot back in 2011, we were coming back from a trip around the 90-mile Davis Mountain Scenic Loop. You cannot beat a Texas sunset, especially if it’s in the Davis Mountains area.

Skyline Drive in Davis Mountains State Park does provide the most dramatic sunsets. So lucky I’ve experienced many with you, my friend. Your photographs capture these sunsets exquisitely.
