Destination: Lake Bastrop South Shore Park

Porch view

Lake Bastrop South Shore Park is a stunning natural retreat located near Bastrop, Texas. Offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this scenic park sits on the shores of beautiful Lake Bastrop. Visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, such as fishing, boating, hiking, and camping. The park is well-maintained and features amenities like picnic areas, playgrounds, and clean restrooms. Whether you’re seeking adventure or simply looking to relax surrounded by nature, Lake Bastrop South Shore Park is the perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

During the COVID lockdown, this was frequently one of the few places I could go for hikes or bike rides and have the park all to myself. The lakefront mini-cabins (featured in the opening photo) are a great place to stay if you don’t want to camp out. For those more into glamping, the Lake Bastrop North Shore Park should appeal to you.

North Shore trail

The trail connecting the South Shore and North Shore is a great area to explore. The loblollies will take you to an unexpected place in Central Texas..

If you enjoy kayaking, take advantage of the calm waters at the scenic lake.

Kayaking
American coot

While kayaking, you will see egrets and American coot ducks swimming in and out of the reeds. Even just sitting outside your cabin or campsite, you may be able to hear them at sunrise or sunset.

In this blog, I have several other photos I captured at this park. Feel free to check them out for more information and photos.

  1. Very nice photographs, all of them. I wish I could visit this park.
I especially like the American coot, because of its three very defined stripes.

  2. Beautiful images Egidio and what a magical place to visit! 😊
