Gilleland Creek

Gilleland Creek— Whenever I want a change of scene on my biking days, I sometimes ride the trail that starts at Northeast Metro Park in Pflugerville. Covering 349 acres, the park offers recreational areas for soccer fields (18 fields), multi-use fields, baseball fields, a cricket field, basketball court, tennis court, a skate park, and even a BMX racetrack, The two-mile hike and bike trail follows along Gilleland Creek and is lined up with picnic areas and plenty of shade. Once you get out of that area, the trail then follows along Pecan Street and goes through several parks in the city of Pflugerville. Last year, one minor and very important addition enhanced the trails in Pflugerville. A connection was missing along the Gilleland Creek Trail West. With that addition completed, a rider can go from Northeast Metro Park all the way to the intersection of Grand Avenue Parkway and Black Locust Drive West. That makes the roundtrip approximately 20 miles if you use some of the internal loops in a couple of areas. This trail addition, although short, connected pre-existing trails along a very scenic area right by Gilleland Creek, as shown in the photo above.
