Grand View Point

Grand View Overlook

— On this Earth Day 2018 I revisit one of the most beautiful national parks in our nation: Canyonlands National Park. Established President Lyndon B. Johnson on September 12, 1964, with 337,598 acres, the park offers breathtaking views of canyons and buttes carved by the Colorado River and its tributaries. Those rivers break the park into four distinct areas called districts: Island in the Sky, the Maze, the Needles and the rivers themselves. When you hike this park, you need to allow more time than you usually take in other places. The views are abundantly beautiful and surround you with majestic panoramas. The photo above was made at the Grand View Point trail. You can see the Green River in the back meandering through the canyon. There’s also a view of Turks Head near the center and Ekker Butte on the upper right-hand corner. The shot below offers a closer view at the Green River Overlook with Turks Head featured near the river.
