— If you are a regular follower of this blog, you learned recently that, besides photography, Brazilian music is another passion of mine. There is also another hobby I enjoy a lot: attending motor events at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) here in Austin. I do not know anything about cars, but those events are fun, especially when I couple them with my photography passion.
So, when I saw that Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge (CFFC) this week was about cars, I knew I could not resist. I had to find time to write this post. The big problem was choosing what I was going to feature. I have so many photos of cars that I decided to pick a particular type: a 1924 Cadillac.
I photographed this beautiful classic car at one of my favorite car races at COTA. I love attending the Sportscar Vintage Race Association (SVRA) events there, which happen in early November shortly after the Formula 1 US Grand Prix. Besides seeing old cars racing, there are always beautiful car exhibits on the Main Plaza. The SVRA races are great because the paddock is completely open to the public. I get to walk by and chat with the car owners and learn from them. Sometimes, they even let me sit in the cars.
Here are some facts about the 1924 Cadillac, also known as the Cadillac Type V-63. I gathered this information using Google’s Gemini AI bot. The 1924 Cadillac had an L-head V8 engine with a whopping 83 horsepower. It only came with a three-speed manual transmission. The standard wheels were the wooden type you see in the photo here.
You could get this vehicle with wire wheels or steel-pressed discs paired with innovative balloon tires for a smoother ride. Now, that is comfort! As a significant addition to this 1924 model, front-wheel brakes were added. I loved the interior of this car. Check out the steering wheel and the flower container.
Wouldn’t you want to take this beauty for a spin around town? It still has the original tool box, so you can make needed repairs.

Great looking car! A classic. Got seatbelts? 😉

Beautiful photographs Egidio, there’s something very atmospheric about vintage cars that takes you straight back to another era 😊

This car would stay firmly locked in my garage. I know it would break down on me, be too expensive to fuel and prove a chilly ride in our climate. This handsome car would have to be just to look at. I clearly have no soul.

Great images of a classic. My favorite cars are before bucket seats and when you could get out of a car easily! Oh yes, and in it! And three could ride in front.

That car is fabulous! It was really fun to see the inside. The ones I’ve seen have all been roped off. I did a post on antique cars a few years ago. https://sprawly.wordpress.com/2021/07/10/rdp-yesterdays-cars/
I just love them and think about the stories they could tell.

I totally agree with you, Xenia, about being transported to another time. Thanks for your feedback.

It does appear so fragile. I’d be afraid to drive it and get hit. So, a garage seems like a great place to keep it. Thanks for the comment.

Thank you, Anne. Yes, cars nowadays are very bulky.

Imagine what they have gone through. I often wonder what it’d be like to go back in time and see several of those vehicles on the streets.

Thank you so much for the comment.

Brad, when you’re in Austin, if there is a show, we can go check it out. The edit I did on your comment was my name spelling.

My 59 Olds I bought in 1986 only had lap belts…
