— When temperatures rise in Texas, there’s no better way to stay cool than in the water. This shot was made three years ago to the day, when I was enjoying the Texas Hill Country along with friends. Inks Lake is one of the Highland Lakes in Central Texas formed along the Colorado River in order to protect this area from flooding. This reservoir was constructed in 1938 and named after one of the board members of the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), the agency that manages the dam. The Highland Lakes on the Colorado River are Lake Buchanan, Lake LBJ, Lake Marble Falls, Lake Travis, Lake Austin, and Lady Bird Lake. Inks Lake State Park is a popular spot for all outdoor recreation. There are even some mini-cabins, if you want to stay out of the heat, when indoors. The park offers 9 miles of hiking trails through shaded areas and rocky hills. This particular view was right outside the mini-cabin I had reserved for that weekend.
