A Tranquil Place

Rabe Meadows

— When we last visited Lake Tahoe, we spent a very enjoyable time in this area. We liked it so much that we came back to catch a sunset there. Rabe Meadows is another peaceful and easy hike on the shores of Lake Tahoe. The trail is a mixture of pavement and gravel, and it is very popular with hikers and bikers.

To get to Rabe Meadows, a visitor starts off south of Highway 50 and Kahle Drive, just past the stateline between California and Nevada. At the trailhead, there’s ample parking and restrooms. The trail itself goes along Burke Creek at the beginning, and you can even see some wildlife by the creek. You then go through a meadow lined with pine trees and benches along the trail (see next photo). Trail length is about 2.2 miles (3.5 km) and will end on beautiful Nevada Beach. Plan on visiting at the end of the day to enjoy a stunning sunset by the lake. Besides the gorgeous and lush scenery on the meadows, you also have amazing views of the Sierra Nevada mountains (bottom photo).
