— For two consecutive years, we have now spent some time in Summit County. We choose that area because of its elevation (9,000 ft/2,743m and higher), lower temperatures in the summer, and excellent hiking trails. This year was our second time in Silverthorne, Colorado.
Although we have been in that area previously, we have not repeated any hiking trails with the exception of one: Lily Pad Lake trail. It is such a beautiful trail and destination. Although the trail has a 400-ft (122-m) initial elevation to deal with, the rest of the trail is easy hiking. If there has been some rain, you might have to deal with muddy areas. Otherwise, it’s an easy trail with great views of Dillon Reservoir and surrounding areas.
Lily Pad Lake actually consists of two ponds. The first is smaller than the other. Generally, the first pond is pretty much covered with yellow lilies in the summer. Last year, we could see several lilies, but nothing compared to this year’s display. The first pond was nearly all covered with lilies. The photos here show a mixture of last year’s and this year’s images.
I especially want to call your attention to the last photo shown above, the one with the lily bud reflecting in the calm waters of the lake. That image was an experiment I ran in the Generative Expand new feature of the Photoshop Beta version. For reasons I cannot quite recall, I could not get the entire bud reflected in the water. Generative Expand created the full reflection for me.
This post is my entry to Denzil Nature’s call for his Nature Photo Challenge #21: Waterplants.

Thanks, Denzil. There is something about getting lost in reflections that attracts me in photography.
