— I have ridden my bicycle around our neighborhood and surrounding areas a few times. There are a few reasons I enjoy doing that. First and foremost is the fact that our streets are very quiet and have little traffic. Another reason is because whenever I am short on time, the area is perfect for a quick ride. Then again, I can find pretty pockets of hidden gems, such as the Applegate duck pond you see in the photo above with several Morning Glory and other wildflowers along its shore (see photos below). This pond is barely under a mile (1.6 km) from my house.
The morning I made these photos was just a couple of days ago in the middle of August. Generally, biking before 11 AM provides me with ample time to exercise and even enjoy a cool breeze. I know it is hard to think of cool in the middle of the summer in Austin, but that is the case. With the bike speed generating some air, it is always easy to feel a little bit of coolness in the air. This neighborhood where this pond is has plenty of shade and is not as hilly as our own neighborhood. Therefore, biking there is a joy.
For the photos here I shot using my Samsung Galaxy S10e phone. It surprises me how good phone cameras are these days. I barely did any post-processing edit on these shots. More and more I am finding myself leaving my mirrorless camera at home when I bike. It is less gear to carry. Furthermore, the phone camera does an excellent job, too.
