— Can you spot the Gunnison River way down there? Warner Point in this location has a depth of 2,722 feet (829 m)! For your reference, remember that the Empire State Building is “only” 1,454 ft (443 m) to the tip of its structure. That means that if you had the Empire State Building on the bottom floor of the canyon, it would barely pass the half-way point of this canyon depth. Or, you could put 2.5 Eiffel Towers on top of each other, and it would still not reach the level from where I was shooting! It is hard to visualize the depth of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison without familiar references. The image above is a composite of three bracketed images I took in order to catch all the highlights and shadows present in the scene.
