— At the end of the day, if you’re lucky and the weather is on your side, you get spectacular views at Pedernales Falls SP. This past February, I went to that park to meet a friend for a day hike. Since it was a week day, we had the park nearly to ourselves, except for a small group of friends who had been in this area earlier in the afternoon. In fact, one of them slipped on the rocks nearby and had to be rescued by helicopter. The whole rescue operation took quite some time. It was not until after about an hour and a half after the accident that the helicopter was able to come in to rescue the person. After that got cleared, we were back from our hike on the Duck Pond trail. We saw some wild hogs near the pond, but they were not a threat to us; they can be vicious sometimes. Anyway, by the time we were back on the river, it was all quiet. With the sun getting low on the horizon, we walked carefully towards the falls area to capture some photos. Getting to this point was harder than we had anticipated, but the results were great, as seen in the photo above.
