— A trip to Big Bend National Park always offers incredible views, whether you are in the mountains, the desert, or by the river. The last time we went to Big Bend was in April 2017, when I got the shot above. Arriving at the park at the end of the day was perfect. We had beautiful light creating magical landscapes with light and shadow. The mountains you see above are Sierra del Carmen in Mexico. The range is also known as Sierra Maderas del Carmen. This is a range that begins at the Rio Grande and extends for about 45 miles (72 km) into Mexico. Sierra del Carmen is a sky island that rises from the Chihuahua Desert. Some of the best views of this range can be seen if you head towards the Boquillas Canyon in Big Bend.
