Spicewood Springs Creek

Spicewood Springs Creek

— In October 2019, a couple of friends and I spent a few days at Colorado Bend SP. With the weather beginning to show sings of fall temperatures, it was the perfect time to get away during the week. Normally, the park is extremely busy on weekends. However, on weekdays, a visitor will often find plenty of quietness. It is just what one needs to get away from the city.

The park is just about an hour and a half from Austin. Colorado Bend SP is one of my favorite parks. I started going there even where the main road to the park was unpaved. A few years ago, though, that problem ended. You can drive all the way into the park on a paved road. The park is known for its beauty along the Colorado River. One of its main attractions is Gorman Falls. On the other hand, as far as trails go, the Spicewood Springs trail cannot be beat. You hike along Spicewood Creek for most of the length of the trail.

If you happen to be in the park on a hot day, you encounter several pools like the one shown in the video above. These refreshing pools are simply soothing after a hike or just to wind down at the end of the day. When the sun is getting low in the horizon at the end of the day, the color on the trees and creek reflect all the beauty of the area. Turn up the volume to listen to the creek slowly trickling down into the pool.

In addition to links here, you can read more about the park on its website.
