Garden Flowers in Our Home

Brazilian Rock Rose

— When I was a child, there was a song that became a big hit in Brazil. It was called “The Garden Flowers in Our Home,” and it was performed by unimitable Roberto Carlos. It was a sad song talking about love lost and love found. The opening verses started off by saying the flowers in our home garden were no longer blooming because love was gone. In the end, the hopeful message in the form of rain showers would bring back new flowers. With that, love would flourish again. To this day, whenever I see flowers blooming in our home garden, that song comes to mind. Right now, our Brazilian Rock Rose (Pavonia braziliensis) bush brightens up the front steps leading to our front door. Brazilian Rock Roses are related to hibiscus, but with greater tolerance to heat and cold. They love sun and partial shade.
