Guadalupe River

— The Guadalupe River State Park land was purchased from private owners in 1974 and opened as a state park in 1983. The park is very popular with campers, swimmers, and tubers in the summer, and it also offers mountain biking trails, bird watching, and geocaching. Last year, on my way back from a long weekend in the Hill Country with friends, I stopped at the park to check out the fall foliage. The park had a beautiful display of colors along the river trail. In this section of the river, one can find high limestone bluffs with bald cypress trees, as well as mesquite trees and grasses. The River Overlook Trail, where I made this shot, is very scenic and sometimes busy, depending on the day of the week you visit the park. There are picnic tables along the trail with families enjoying the serene views.
