The Wishing Well
– When visiting Kickapoo Cavern State Park (Texas), one needs to make sure to do at least two things. First, you need to see about half a million Mexican free-tailed bats take flight nightly from Stuart Bat Cave. Second, you need make reservations to hike into Kickapoo Cavern to experience a natural cave with just flashlights and marvel at beautiful formations. Kickapoo Cavern is 1,404 ft (428 m) long and contains the most massive speleothems known in Texas. The cave is not developed and will remain that way. So, the only light you get inside comes from our headlights and flashlights. For the first half of the hike, we walk on rocks that have fallen and cover the cave ground. It is not until we reach the two massive columns (the largest in a Texas cave) that we actually get to see the cave floor. In addition to these large columns, there are other formations worth mentioning, such as the Dragon, Yogi and Boo Boo and the Wishing Well, featured here.
