Mount Denali, Denali National Park & Preserve
– Back in 2004, we took a trip to Alaska. In addition to a cruise, we also included a land portion by train all the way to Denali National Park & Preserve. At that time, a five megapixel camera allowed me to get this shot. We were lucky that both on the train trip and also in the bus trip inside Denali NP we could see Mt. Denali every day. The mountain is known for creating its own weather system, and that often prevents visitors from seeing the mountain clearly.
Until today (August 30, 2015), Mt. Denali was known as Mt. McKinley, the U.S. highest peak at 20,320 feet (6,194 meters). Denali is the Koyukon Athabascan name for the mountain. Another interesting fact about Mt. Denali is that the mountain is still growing at a rate of about one millimeter per year, according to the National Park Service.
