Point Lookout

Point Lookout— Located in Southwestern Colorado, Mesa Verde National Park was established on June 29, 1906, by President Theodore Roosevelt. It was the first national park of its kind created to “preserve the works of man,” in President Roosevelt’s words. The focus is to preserve cultural and natural resources. The park contains nearly 5,000 archeological sites, including several impressive cliff dwellings. As soon as one drives into the park, the majestic sight of Point Lookout dominates the view. Point Lookout (8,427 ft or 2.570 m) is a very resistant sandstone.
