— Just under 2 miles (3.2 km) from our house, the Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park is a heavily used park in north Austin. The park is 293 acres of biking/hiking trails, playground, sports fields, and a swimming pool. There are more than 15 miles (24 km) of trails to explore, including a paved trail connecting to other parks in west Austin. There are also off-leash areas for dogs, but for the most part dogs should be on a leash. You can take a road or mountain bike on these trails, but unless you go on a week day, you should expect heavy traffic with bikers, hikers, and dogs. This Thursday morning, though, it seemed like I was the only person in this area along the creek. Temperatures were unseasonably cool for summertime — one more reason to enjoy the park! Here are more shots from this morning’s walk.
