Widforss Trail

— This was one of those memorable trails at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon NP: Widforss Trail. There are actually three options from the trail head area. The shortest trail is only a half mile of the Arizona Trail. Not much there to see. The actual Widforss Trail is approximately 10 miles (16 km), depending on how much you wander around along the trail. It has an elevation gain of 1,036 ft (315 m). In our case, it took us nearly 12 miles (19 km) total. There is also an option to do only half of the trail and follow fourteen marked points along that trail. After an initial climb, the trail then pretty much runs along the canyon rim. Of course, views are abundant along the way. As in the photo above, you have Kaibab limestones cliffs (on the left) as well as the red-walled ravine (The Transept). You can probably view that better in the photo below. Also on the photo below, you have that narrow limestone fin that gives you even better views of the canyon. We walked a little on that section, even though it is not part of the trail. If you go beyond the fourteen marked points, you will go through a forest setting. There were lots of wildflowers in that section.
