— Exactly 13 years ago today, we were hiking at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. We had gone to get some good barbecue at Cooper’s in Llano and decided to drive over to Enchanted Rock to burn some of the calories we had gained at lunch time. It was a futile attempt if you’ve ever eaten at Cooper’s. Nevertheless, climbing to the top of Enchanted Rock was great, especially because we had those beautiful stormy clouds above us. Luckily it never rained, and we were safe. Enchanted Rock SNA is a very, very popular park in the Hill Country with over 250,000 visitors each year. Normally on weekends, there are lines of cars trying to get in, and park personnel often have to make some wait outside in line and simply deny entrance. Although there are roughly around 11 miles (17.7 km) of trail in the park, climbing Enchanted Rock is a must for everyone who has the strength to do so. There are more than 400 archaeological sites in the park.
