— When I visited the Chalk Ridge Falls park in January 2021, I was not sure what else was there to do besides enjoying a quiet hike and scene at the falls themselves. I knew the trail was not long or demanding. What I was not aware of was the beauty of the Lampasas River, which flows through the park.
Right around the area where the falls are, you will find a fun section of the trail that includes a suspension bridge. To reach that bridge, you simply need to follow the red trail option. That trail will follow the Lampasas River downstream from the falls. It is a cable suspension bridge that really rocks — literally! So, if you are nervous about rocking boats, for example, you may want to skip the bridge and return to the parking area. Actually, the bridge is quite safe, but it does move a bit as you walk across it. Of course there are cables to hold on to, and it is recommended you do so. The two photos below show part of the bridge. Once you pass the bridge, the trail will pretty much parallel the Lampasas River with plenty of quiet along the way. Not many people venture past the bridge, but if you want a piece of tranquility, I highly recommend you keep on hiking. It’s a very scenic trail.
