— After stopping at the Shafer Canyon Overlook and having our breaths taken away watching bikers going down the steep road, we decided to hike the short 0.3-mile (0.5 km) trail to get different views of the White Rim Road down 1,400 ft (426 m) in Canyonlands NP. Like other places in the park, this is one area where one can spend hours just digesting the beauty and detail in the land below. This road and other places in the park are historic pathways used by explorers. According to the park’s website, even under favorable conditions, this road is “moderately difficult for high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicles.” To do the entire 100 miles, it may take 2-3 days by car and 3-4 days by bicycle.
