Alberta Falls at Dusk

Alberta Falls

— As the fall season is not too far ahead, I think back to September 2019, when we spent a week at Rocky Mountain NP. Memorable hikes and scenery abound in that park. There are countless lakes, including Sprague Lake, Nymph Lake, Dream Lake, Emerald Lake, and Bear Lake, just to name a few. One cannot forget what a thrill it is to drive up Trail Ridge Road and let the beauty of the Rockies soak in. Rivers, streams, and waterfalls are everywhere. Out of those, one particular waterfall grabbed our eyes: Alberta Falls.

We ended up visiting Alberta Falls a couple of times on this trip. The last time was at the end of the day. The view was quite different from the others because the light was getting low. We noticed a lot of people were coming to sit and appreciate the beauty of these falls. It is understandable why when you simply look at the photo above. The place is magical. Because of the dim light, the forest becomes mysterious. All you hear are the sounds of birds and the water trickling down.

For the shot above, I climbed down a section of the falls that was pretty safe. I wanted to get close to the water and also be able to see the falls in the background. There was also this light at the top of the falls that was providing just the right feel for my photo. The trail leading up to Alberta Falls is fairly easy (1.6 miles or 2.57 km) with easy elevation. If you’re planning a trip to Rocky Mountain NP and would like more information about the trail, you can check out AllTrails.
