Approaching Storm

Storm over Lily Pad Lake
Approaching storm over Lily Pad Lake

–It is often said that a storm is a photographer’s friend. In our most recent trip to Colorado, we were able to witness that a few times. Luckily, every time we saw nature’s work in progress, we were spared of any damages or real storms. We got the benefits of stormy skies and dark clouds, but we were just outside the actual line of thunderstorms.

In the photo here, we had hiked to Lily Pad Lake in the Eagles Nest Wilderness area of the White River NF. When we reached the lake, the clouds began forming and thunder could be heard in the distance. We decided to wait before we began our hike back. While we were taking a break and having snacks, we witnessed the beautiful work in progress that nature provided. It was a sight to be seen. In the end, in just about 20-30 minutes, the skies cleared up completely.

Good for you for capturing that glorious sky Egidio – proof that the phrase “capturing the moment” is imperative! That it was gone in just a few moments says it all. Beautiful images.

Love your take on, Egidio! Dramatic, but beautiful clouds. Beautiful image, indeed.

What a great interpretation for a work in progress. What a great way to take advantage of the moment. I enjoyed the reflection you captured as well.

GREAT photo. I’ve been to Lily Pad Lake many times. The first time, we saw this big lake and didn’t realize the one LOADED with lily pads was a few more steps up the hill. Next time we saw that one too. (Rainbow Lake is a fave of ours also.)

Thanks, John. We did that hike last year and repeated it this year. It’s a beautiful and serene place.
