— Known for its expansive landscape views, Big Bend National Park (Texas) also has an amazing display of wildflowers. If you have ever been to that park in the spring, you have seen a wide display of wildflowers covering the entire park.
Last year, we planned a trip to Big Bend in early April to take advantage of springtime flowers. The cactus featured above, Rainbow Cactus, was spotted at Dagger Flat Auto Trail. That 14-mile auto roundtrip trail (also good for biking) is unique for its display of a forest of dagger yuccas. The same goes for the Ocotillo below. It was spotted right at the beginning of the trail. The trail is fine for most cars, but there are some sections that require a little clearing above a sedan’s height. Drive it slowly and enjoy the views and towering dagger yuccas and other flora species.
The bottom photo is the Pitaya Cactus. Although the Prickly Pear Cactus is more common (yellow flowers), the Pitaya Cactus stands out whenever you spot it.
