Emerald Lake

Emerald Lake

— Emerald Lake is the last lake on the lakes’ trail in Rocky Mountain NP. If you have been following my hike, you will remember that at first we started at Bear Lake. From there we proceeded to Nymph Lake and Dream Lake. This roundtrip hike is only 3.5 miles (5.6 km) long with an elevation gain of 650 feet (198 m). Along this trail you will have great views of Longs Peak and also Hallett Peak. At this point of the trail, you may find that it is just the best spot to rest and take in this view. I climbed to this rock above the lake shore and enjoyed a quiet lunch here. The number of wildlife you see around will be quite nice. The birds and chipmunks are definitely used to humans there. I had no problem photographing them up close. Once again, the dominating mountain view before your eyes are Hallett Peak (12,713 feet / 3,875 m) on the left and Flattop Mountain (12,324 feet / 3,756 m).
