McKinney Roughs Nature Park

McKinney Roughs Nature Park

— Exactly a year ago today, a couple of friends invited me to come along with them for a hike at LCRA‘s McKinney Roughs Nature Park. We had just started feeling the effects of the pandemic and were looking for outdoor places where we could practice social distancing. Located just 13 miles (21 km) from Austin‘s airport, this park offers beautiful trails that can take you all the way down to the Colorado River. Besides hiking, the park also has trails for horseback riding and mountain biking. You can also enjoy nature while using picnic areas or a bird viewing area. You can even go zip lining there, too.

Since today is St. Patrick’s Day, I wanted to post something that would show a lot of green. The trail you see above is the Riverside trail, and it will take you all the way to the banks of the Colorado River. The vegetation was lush and gave you a complete sense of being immersed in nature on that day last year.
