Sandpiper

— When we come to Port Aransas, going to the beach is a must, of course. Although I love being on the beach just because of the ocean breezes and quiet times, I also enjoy watching the wildlife in Port Aransas. There are always plenty of things to see. Throughout the years, we have observed American oystercatchers, seagulls, Portuguese men-of-wars, and other wildlife. In this latest time we’ve spent in Port Aransas, I was able to capture more sandpipers on the beach. They are amazing birds, especially the way they quickly move from place to place. While editing this shot, the song “The Shadow of Your Smile” inevitably was on my mind. However, I also discovered some beautiful verses by Elizabeth Bishop, which I transcribe below:

All my life I have lived and behaved very much like the sandpiper – just running down the edges of different countries and continents, ‘looking for something’.
