Southern Walnut Creek

So Walnut Creek

— Just last November 2018 this was the scene at the Southern Walnut Creek Hike and Bike trail. Fall colors were all over the trail. As we begin Fall 2019, I wonder where we will have a beautiful display of fall foliage this year. Today was the first day of fall, and our temperature reached a high of 100ºF. This hike and bike trail is a welcome addition to Austin. Its present length, you can ride your bike from Govalle Park to the Abrupt End for approximately 10.5 miles (17 km) on a 10-foot (3-meter) wide paved trail. This trail is part of the of the planned Walnut Creek regional trail system created by the Austin Parks and Recreation Department. The plan is to have a 19-mile (30-km) trail network connecting the Govalle Neighborhood Park in East Austin to the Balcones District Park in North Austin, at Amherst Dr. The two largest sections yet to be completed will connect the Southern Walnut Creek Hike and Bike trail to the existing Northern Walnut Creek trail.
