Storm on the Rockies

Rocky Mountain National Park

— During our last visit to Rocky Mountain NP in September 2019, we experienced a lot of memorable moments. For example, our drive to the top of Trail Ridge Road gave us unforgettable views. Another example is the elk herd we saw as we drove to a trailhear. There were also the many lake views we marveled at, such as Bear Lake, Dream Lake, Nymph Lake, and the storms that quickly came and went at Sprague Lake. On this particular afternoon you see in the photo above, we had been through some rain early in the afternoon. The sun came out only to go back in the clouds later in the day. Another storm was coming through. As we were preparing to leave the park, close to the exit, we had to stop to capture the moment you see here. Storm clouds looked very ominous. However, in the middle of those clouds, sunlight was still covering a large portion of the meadow by Fall River Road. It was a magical moment to see light illuminating the meadow and trees at the foot of that mountain. I did not have time to get out of the car because it was beginning to drizzle. Before losing the moment, I made the photo above right from the car window.
