San Gabriel River

San Gabriel River

— Yesterday I decided to hike a section of a trail I have used for biking several times in the past: the San Gabriel River trail. It is located in Georgetown, just about 20-25 miles (32-40 km) north from my house in Austin. The Booty’s Road Park trail has one small section in gravel, but for the most part the trail is all paved. On weekdays, you likely will not see many people there. On weekends, however, the trail gets a few more visitors.

The Booty’s Road Park trail itself is approximately 2.5 miles (4.0 km) long roundtrip with no significant elevation change. However, since it connects to other trails as part of the San Gabriel River trail system, you can walk or hike it for as long as you want. One end of the trail ends up at the dam in Lake Georgetown. Also, if you leave the trail to get closer to the San Gabriel River, you may end up adding a few more yards (meters) to your hike. That is what I did to make the photo above and the short video below. Although both the photo and video are seen from the trail, it is much better getting closer to the water to observe how lush and scenic the area is.
