— It is not very usual to see clear water in Austin‘s creeks in the middle of July. With the absence of rains in the area, some creeks do not run. So, imagine my surprise when I went mountain biking in the middle of the week at Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park, just a couple of miles from home. The air temperature was comfortable. However, because the sun had not broken through the tree cover, most of the trail we used was shaded. Consequently, the humidity was still high.
When one bikes at this park, it is often less crowded if one crosses Walnut Creek. That makes sense since most hikers stay close to the parking areas. Therefore, we made our way to cross the creek. When we got to the area known as Root Drop, we had to get off our bikes. There are large rock drops and exposed roots in the area. The photo above is the scene the was in front of our eyes. The sunlight was simply beautiful. Furthermore, being right at the creek was also very cool. I had to stop and let the landscape soak in. The reflection on the creek was so serene. It reminded me of another scene I saw recently at Balcones District Park and St. Edward Park. I had to register this moment with my phone. That is the photo above.
The bike ride was great, especially after the sun warmed up a little and decreased the humidity. We were all over the park and rode for two hours.
